The Weather Channel unveils Toyota Mobile Weather Fleet

Fleet becomes resource for flagship morning show

Atlanta, GA (December 8, 2014) – The Weather Channel® deploys brand-new Toyota Mobile Weather Fleet into communities nationwide to provide coverage of severe weather and local events. Armed with on-camera meteorologists, the fleet enhances the network’s mission to inspire viewers to explore, investigate and appreciate the experience of weather by bringing additional live coverage to their screens.

The vehicles will be exclusive to the network’s flagship live morning show “AMHQ with Sam Champion.” Each week, AMHQ will be on-the-scene, live with the Toyota Mobile Weather Fleet, appearing at both breaking weather news and lifestyle events.

Equipped with portable Weather Underground weather station systems and televisions capable of displaying radar and weather graphics, the fleet—including a RAV4, Prius v and 4Runner—allows meteorologists in the field to receive extremely accurate weather data, so they can in turn give viewers the most up-to-date information. In addition to supplying local weather data for each of the vehicles, the weather station systems will allow each of the vehicles to contribute data from its current location to the WunderStation database.

“The Toyota Mobile Weather Fleet is an enormous asset that enables our team to quickly react to and cover weather-related events around the country,” says Angela Massie, senior executive producer of AMHQ. “We are storytellers, and having the fleet at our disposal allows us to share our passion and fascination with the weather more immediately with our audience.”

AMHQ aims to energize and prepare viewers for the day, not only forecasting the weather, but looking ahead at the news and events that will unfold and shape their days. The fleet amplifies the show’s ability to engage its audience while making for compelling live television.

“We hope the Toyota Mobile Weather Fleet will serve as a vehicle to engage the community, helping the AMHQ team inform and inspire viewers both on-air and on the road,” said Dionne Colvin-Lovely, director of traditional and digital media for Toyota.

The Toyota Mobile Weather Fleet will be stationed in three regions across the country - the East Coast, Northeast and Midwest with corresponding home bases in Atlanta, New York and Chicago.
